Description

This milestone, located at National Grid Reference ST 6504 2557, is possibly from the early 19th century. It is made of Doulting stone and features a cast-iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 375 mm wide, 250 mm thick, and 400 mm high, with a flat top. The plaque, which is about 375 mm by 50 mm, has 150 mm diameter rondels at the top and bottom, and it reads: "6/Sherborne/Ansford/5 3/4". This road was turnpiked in 1753 and is maintained by the Shaftesbury and Sherborne Trust.
