Description

COMPTON PAUNCEFOOT CP ST62NE 5/31 Milestone at NGR ST 6504 2557 - - II Milestone. Possibly early C19. Doulting stone with cast-iron plaque. Stone about 375 mm wide x 250 mm thick x 400 mm high, flat top; plaque is about 375 mm x 50 mm with 150 mm diameter rondels top and bottom, and reads: "6/Sherborne/Ansford/5 3/4". This road turnpiked in 1753, and maintained by the Shaftesbury and Sherborne Trust.
