Description

This milestone, likely from the 19th century, is made of Doulting stone and features a cast iron plaque. The stone measures approximately 400 mm wide, 250 mm thick, and 600 mm tall, with a rounded top and a base that is mostly buried. The plaque, which is about 400 mm wide and 500 mm deep, has a shouldered semi-circular top and a double ogee base. It displays the incised letters indicating the distances: "Wincanton" on the curve and "3, Sherborne 7". This road was maintained by the Wincanton Trust starting around 1818.
