Description
The following building shall be added to the list:-
NORTH CHERITON HARDINGS LANE
ST 62 NE 3/10002 II
House. Circa 1865, extended in circa 1890's. Stone rubble with freestone dressing. Plain tile roof with stone coping to gable ends. Brick axial and gable-end stacks with stone caps. PLAN: Long main front range containing three principal rooms and the entrance hall at the centre with the staircase at the back. Behind the dining room on the left is the kitchen and behind the drawing room on the right is the billiard room added in the 1890's. EXTERIOR: 2 storeys, asymmetrical 5-window south front. 1,2,3 and 4-light moulded stone mullion windows with casements with leaded panes; the ground floor with a continuous stringcourse raised up over windows and doorway to form hoodmoulds; two first floor windows in small gables have raised centre lights with hoodmoulds; moulded 4-centred arch doorway at centre with plank door. At rear four staggered gables, the outer are projecting wings, the centre gable has gabled wooden hood over bell with ornate bargeboards. On the left [west] gable-end facing road there is a corbelled brick stack. INTERIOR: The simple interior is little altered and retains plank doors, simple chimneypieces and a cantilevered stone staircase with wrought-iron balusters.
