Description
North Cheriton Cemetery Chapel is a cemetery chapel built around the late 19th century. It features coursed stone rubble with freestone dressings and a plain clay tile roof adorned with pierced crested ridge tiles and stone-coped gable ends.
The chapel has a single-cell rectangular plan with an entrance at the west end, designed in a Gothic style. The west end showcases a tall chamfered two-centred arch with a hoodmould, which contains a three-light Perpendicular traceried window above panelled double-doors with arched heads. There is a small lancet window above the doors and a pedimented stone bellcote at the apex of the gable, topped with a stone cross. The gable is accented with moulded stone kneelers and flanking buttresses that have weathered set-offs. Similar buttresses and small single-light windows with ogee tracery are present on the sides of the chapel. The east end features a three-light Perpendicular window, and all windows are fitted with leaded panes.
The interior was not inspected, but it is noted to have patterned stained glass windows.
