Description
Chapel Cottage is a detached cottage, possibly incorporating a former chapel, dating from the 15th century and later. It is constructed of local stone rubble with Doulting stone dressings and features a thatched roof between coped gables, along with stone chimney stacks that have traditional baffles. The building is two storeys high and consists of four bays arranged in two units set at an angle to each other.
Bay 1 has plain chamfered mullioned stone windows without labels, with a 3-light window below and a 2-light window above. Bay 2 features a 20th-century 2-light casement window above and a small rectangular window below. Between these bays is a blocked 4-centre arched doorway, which now has a 9-pane casement window. Bay 3 has a mezzanine window with a pointed 4-centre 20th-century arch, while bay 4 contains 2-light casements, one of which is older. All windows, except for the one blocking the doorway, have rectangular leaded panes.
On the east gable, there is a projecting chimney stack with offsets, and there is a lean-to against the west gable. The interior has not been seen, but it is reported to include a rear stair turret with a circular stone staircase, some chamfered beams with step and hollow curve stops, and a roof featuring a single chuck truss.
