Description

Old Beams is a semi-detached cottage dated 1738, which has been modified. It is built from Cary stone that is cut and squared, with ashlar dressings, and features a triple roll clay roof with plain gables and brick chimney stacks. The cottage has a double roof plan and consists of two storeys with four bays.

In the first bay, there is a single light timber window with a casement below and nothing above. The second and third lower bays, as well as the second and fourth upper bays, have plain surrounds and mullioned two-light windows, some of which include iron framed opening lights. All windows have rectangular leaded panes. The fourth lower bay features a boarded door set in a heavy frame, accompanied by an open timber and tile porch. In the third upper bay, there is a Keinton stone plaque under a hoodmould that is incised with "G/WE/l738".

There is a single bay extension from the 1960s on the west gable, and the east side has a rounded return with single casements leading to the adjoining cottage, which is not of special interest. The interior has not been seen.
