Description

East Hall Farmhouse is a detached farmhouse dating from the 11th century and later. It is constructed from roughly cut and squared Cary stone with Doulting stone dressings, and features a plain clay tile roof accented with bands of scallop tiles between stepped coped gables. The building has brick end chimney stacks and is designed in an L-plan, with two storeys and an attic, presenting a three-bay south elevation.

The farmhouse includes ovolo mould mullioned windows, with three lights above and four lights below. The lower bay features a projecting gabled porch that matches the house, with a chamfered four-centre archway and a 19th-century glazed door. There is a hipped lean-to extension of two storeys against the east gable, which is connected by a raked wing wall to a small 19th-century dairy that has a Welsh slate roof, a brick chimney stack, and a two-light leaded casement window. The rear projection has casement windows and shows signs that the roof was raised.

Inside, the farmhouse has chamfered beams without stops and mostly fielded panel doors. There is a modified fireplace with a separate bread oven in the north gable, and in the east gable, a wide fireplace features a chamfered timber lintel and a salt cupboard with a fielded panel door. A notable 17th-century staircase has a very deep handrail and moulded turned balusters. In the west gable, there is an 18th-century open cupboard with a carved front, and window seats are present in all front windows. The west ground floor room boasts a four-panel plaster moulded beam ceiling.
