Description
Kingsdon Church of England Primary School, opened in 1872, is a single-storey building constructed from local lias stone that has been cut and squared. The roof is plain clay tiled, featuring bands of scallop tiles, a saw tooth ridge, and plain overhung gables, along with a stone chimney stack. The school has a T-plan layout with an extension.
The north-east elevation consists of three bays, where the third bay projects as a gable. The first two bays are lean-tos against the main structure, featuring horizontal bar casement windows beneath stone lintels. The third bay includes a segmental pointed arched window with a three-light traceried timber casement that has trefoil heads on the lights. The south-east elevation mirrors this gable design and has a four-light window, topped with a timber bell turret that has a half-hipped cedar shingle roof.
Approximately four meters to the south is a separate toilet block that matches the school but has monopitch roofs, included for the completeness of this relatively unspoilt complex. Additionally, in the east angle of the school, there is a cast iron pump with a handle, positioned about 300 mm from the building.
