Description
This milestone, located approximately 50 metres south of the junction with Burton Salmon Lane, dates from the 19th century. It is made of ashlar with a cast-iron facade and has a triangular shape with a semi-circular top, standing about 1.25 metres high. The centre features the inscription 'BRAYSHAW & BOOTH / MAKERS / LIVERSEDGE'. The raised lettering is painted black against a white background, displaying directions: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / BURTON SALMON' around the head; 'YORK / 19¾ MILES / TADCASTER / 10¼ MILES' on the south side; and 'DONCASTER / 17 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 4¾ MILES / FERRYBRIDGE / 2 MILES' on the north side.
