Raised inscription painted black against white background: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / BURTON SALMON' (around head); 'YORK / 19¾ MILES / TADCASTER / 10¼ MILES' (on south side); 'DONCASTER / 17 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 4¾ MILES / FERRYBRIDGE / 2 MILES' (on north side).
