Description
This milestone, located approximately 0.2 miles south of the junction with Betteras Hill Road, dates from the 19th century. It is made of ashlar with a cast-iron facade and stands about 1 metre high. The centre features the inscription 'BRAYSHAW & BOOTH / MAKERS / LIVERSEDGE'. The raised lettering is painted black against a white background, displaying directions: 'TADCASTER & DONCASTER / ROAD / BURTON SALMON' around the top; 'DONCASTER / 18 MILES / PONTEFRACT / 5¾ MILES' on the north side; and 'YORK / 18¾ MILES / TADCASTER 9¼ MILES' on the south side.
