Description
The Manor House is a house built in 1655, with later additions and alterations, located on the south side of Main Street in Monk Fryston. It is constructed from magnesian limestone and features a Cumberland slate roof. The house has a three-cell lobby-entry plan and stands two storeys high with six bays. The corners are accentuated with quoins.
The entrance is situated in the fourth bay and consists of a five-long-panel door set beneath a four-centred arch with chamfered jambs. There is a blocked 18th-century entrance in the second bay that features a six-long-panel door in a plain architrave, also with chamfered jambs, and is topped by a hood. The façade includes three four-light and one two-light double-chamfered mullion windows, along with a two-light window that is a 20th-century reconstruction. The window to the left is set under a separate hoodmould, while the windows to the right, including the door, are under a continuous hoodmould.
On the first floor, above the doors, there are single-light windows, with the one above the second bay being a 20th-century reconstruction, and the one above the fourth bay framed in a single-chamfered surround. The remaining windows are two-, three-, and four-light double-chamfered mullion windows, with the one above the fifth bay also being a 20th-century reconstruction. The house features ashlar coping, and to the left gable, there is a blocked four-centred doorway. Similar mullion windows are found throughout the building. Inside, most rooms display chamfered beams and exposed joists.
