Description
The gates, gatepiers, railings, and wall at the entrance to Monk Fryston Hall date from the mid to late 19th century. The structure features a rusticated sandstone wall with ashlar coping and piers, along with cast-iron gates and railings. There are two pairs of square gatepiers, each approximately 4 metres high, with walls on either side that are about 7 metres long and 1 metre high, topped with railings that are approximately 1½ metres high. The central carriage gates are flanked by pedestrian gates. The piers are adorned with a frieze, cornice, and pedestals, with the central piers topped by lanterns. The carriage gates are ramped down to the centre and feature two levels of bars with finials and scroll decoration on the sides. The pedestrian gates on the sides ramp upwards. The wall has a curved coping, and the railings consist of bars topped with finials and two levels of rails.
