Description

This is a mile-post located outside the garden wall of Gilling Lodge in Gilling West, dating from around 1890. It is made of cast iron and has a triangular shape. On the left side, there is a hand pointing right with the inscription "RICHMOND 3 MILES," while the right side features a hand pointing left with "LUCY CROSS 5 MILES." At the top, it reads "RICHMOND H D," indicating the Highways Division. This mile-post was installed after the Highways Act of 1888.
