Description
39 and 41 High Street are two houses built in 1735. They are constructed of coursed sandstone and feature stone slate and pantile roofs. The buildings are two storeys high and have a layout of one bay on the left and three bays on the right. The main house has quoins at both ends, with two six-panel doors located between the second and third bays. The door to the left is part-glazed and set in a quoined ashlar surround, with the inscription "J J" on the lintel, while the door to the right is also in a quoined surround.
The windows from 1735 have raised ashlar surrounds, with four-pane sashes in the first and second bays of No 39, and a 16-pane sash with crown glass in the third bay of No 41. The buildings feature broken kneelers, ashlar coping, and a stone slate roof, with stacks located at the ends and between the second and third bays. The left bay includes a ground-floor segmental-arched carriageway and a first-floor 16-pane sash window in a raised ashlar surround. This bay has a shallower pitch roof made of pantiles, with stone slates at the eaves.
