Description

Oakwood House is a late 17th-century house, with subsequent alterations. It is constructed of rubble with a pantile roof, featuring stone slates at the eaves. The house is three storeys high with a symmetrical facade of three first-floor windows. A six-panel door is situated between the second and third windows, set within an early 18th-century doorcase. This doorcase comprises Tuscan half-columns, an Ionic entablature, and a cornice. The ground floor has large sash windows with glazing bars; two are to the left of the door, and one to the right. The first window has a concrete lintel, while the second and third have ashlar flat arches. The first floor has sash windows with glazing bars and projecting sills, the third window again with an ashlar flat arch. A blocked two-light chamfered mullioned window is positioned between the first and second floors. The second floor features four small windows with chamfered ashlar surrounds. Shaped kneelers and an ashlar coping adorn the roofline. There are ridge stacks located to the left of the door and at the right end. On the right return, a chamfered single-light window is found within the gable. The exposed surrounds of several blocked two-light mullion windows have been revealed following the removal of roughcast. A doorway, originally rusticated, has been removed from the left end of the ground floor since the last listing.
