Description

Number 16 is a house located on Commercial Street in Norton-on-Derwent, dating from the early 19th century with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of variegated brick in Flemish bond and features a pantile roof. It has three storeys and a two-window front.

The entrance, located left of centre, consists of a six-panel door with an overlight, which is sheltered by a bracketed cornice porch supported by fluted pilasters. This entrance is accessed by a flight of stone steps. There is a similar rear access door and steps at the right end of the building. The windows throughout are 20th-century single-pane sashes with painted stone sills. The ground and first-floor openings have painted wedge lintels, while the second-floor windows are topped with thin timber lintels. The house has end and left of centre chimney stacks.

Additionally, slender cast-iron railings with a wreathed handrail on turned standards are attached to both flights of steps. The property is included for its group value.
