Description

Number 8 is a house dating from around 1800, with alterations made in the mid-19th century and late 20th century. The building is constructed of brick, with a rendered basement and painted ashlar dressings. It has a concrete tile roof and a single side wall stack. The design features a basement lintel band and ground and first-floor sill bands. The house is three storeys high, plus a basement, and has a two-window front. The windows are plain sashes, with the second-floor windows being smaller, and feature slightly cambered lintels with a multi-keystone. The ground floor has steps leading to a restored doorcase with Doric columns and a dentillated pediment, enclosing a fielded six-panel door and a plain fanlight. The basement has an altered plain sash window to the left, and a four-panel door to the right. Attached to the front are cast-iron area railings. The building is of group value reflecting its contribution to the streetscape.
