Description

Number 12 is a house built around 1820, with alterations made in the mid-19th century. It is constructed of brick with a stucco basement and features a bay window, painted ashlar dressings, and a hipped slate roof with a single gable and stacks at the rear. The building has a plinth, a basement lintel band, ground floor and first-floor sill bands, and a wooden gutter with brackets. It stands three storeys high, plus a basement, and has a three-window range. The windows are mainly plain sashes with multi keystone lintels. The front on Grimston Street has two windows and a blank space to the right, with similar fenestration above, featuring smaller windows. The central wooden doorcase has panelled pilasters and scroll brackets, with a round-arched recess leading to a part-glazed fielded six-panel door. To the left is a plain sash window, and to the right is a blank window. The basement has a 20th-century single-pane window on the left. On the right side, facing Jarratt Street, there is a full-height bow window with plain sashes on the lower floors and an eight-pane sash on the second floor. The basement on this side has a twelve-pane sash window flanked to the left by a 20th-century panelled door. Outside, along Jarratt Street, there are iron railings with a gate.
