Description

Numbers 4 and 5 are two houses with attached railings, built around 1800 and partly refenestrated in the mid-19th century. They are constructed of brick with a rendered basement and painted ashlar dressings, topped with a slate roof featuring a single ridge and a single side wall stack. The buildings have a first-floor band and a modillion wooden eaves cornice, which is more elaborate on the left side.

The houses are three storeys high plus a basement and have a four-window range. All windows feature multi keystone lintels. On the left side, there are two plain sashes on each floor, with the second-floor sashes being smaller. On the right side, there are two 12-pane sashes on the lower floors and two 9-pane sashes on the second floor. Each house has steps leading to a wooden doorcase with engaged Roman Doric columns and a dentillated pediment, which frames a fielded six-panel door and a plain fanlight. The basement includes a plain sash window on the left and two 9-pane sashes on the right. The exterior is complemented by plain wrought-iron area railings.
