Description

Numbers 54 and 56 are a pair of houses dating to around 1830 to 1840. They are constructed of stucco over brick, with a concealed roof and a brick stack at the right end. The houses have cast- and wrought-iron railings and porches.

The houses are three storeys high with a basement, displaying six first-floor windows on each front. The main floors feature 6/6 sash windows, with the central opening on the second floor of each house being blind. All windows are set in plain reveals with sills. The basement windows are 4/8 sashes. Steps lead to the left-hand entrances, which have six-panel doors with overlights featuring diamond glazing. A continuous crowning frieze and cornice runs along the top of the building.

The interior of the houses has not been inspected. The porches have a scrolled trellis frieze; that to the right has double scrolls to the uprights. Lancet-style railings are present alongside the steps and across the fronts, with separate gates for the basement entrances. The stanchions are finished with urn finials.
