Description

This is a terrace of five houses located on Bath Parade in Cheltenham, built around 1820 to 1850. The houses are constructed of stucco over brickwork, with concealed roofs and brick and stucco party-wall stacks. They have iron railings to the sides of the steps. The houses are arranged with a double-depth plan, featuring a parlour to the front and stairways to the right.

The two-storey houses have basements and 10 first-floor windows (two per house). Original windows are 6/6 sashes, with margin-lights to the right-hand ground-floor window; basement windows are 8/8 sashes. All windows have plain reveals and sills. The entrances are on the right-hand side, leading to 4-panel doors, some of which are part-glazed, and overlights with glazing bars. Architectural details include a crowning frieze, cornice, blocking course, copings, raised party-wall dividers, and a raised and coped gable end to the right. The porches to numbers 3 and 5 have scroll and lozenge motifs to uprights, with scroll and twist details, openwork friezes, and glazed roofs. Spearhead railings with stick balusters are present to the sides of the steps and areas, with similar boundary railings to the right. The area railings to number 9 feature arches with Y-tracery. Window boxes are present on the ground floor of numbers 7 and 11.

The interior was not inspected during the listing process.

This terrace represents a good surviving example of a modest dwelling of its type and date, retaining original features such as the porches and railings.
