Description

Oriel Place is a terrace of eleven houses built in 1827. The houses are stucco over brick construction, with concealed roofs and brick and stucco party-wall stacks. They have iron porches and railings. The houses are two storeys with a basement, featuring 22 first-floor windows (two per house). The exterior includes a ground-floor platband, surmounted to every third window bay by pilasters with incised Greek-key decoration, an elliptical arch, a frieze, a cornice, and a blocking course. Flights of steps lead to paired entrances with six-panel, part-glazed doors. The original windows are 6/6 sashes, with those within arched recesses being wider and having margin-lights. The interior was not inspected. The porches have a heart-and-scroll motif to the uprights. Area railings primarily feature spearhead bars and dog-bars, with urn finials to the stanchions, and some stick balusters to the sides of the steps. Known as Oriel Terrace, the property is a handsome neo-Classical terrace of modest houses and is distinguished by its iron porches and arched bays. It groups with number 79.
