Description
The Sandford Park Hotel, originally two houses, was constructed around 1820 to 1850. The building is brick faced with a stucco facade, and has a concealed roof with iron railings. It is three storeys high with a basement, featuring six first-floor windows and a two-storey entrance bay set back on the right side. Decorative stucco elements include a band above the basement, supported by pilasters with Greek-key decoration at the ends and centre. A first-floor sill band is similarly supported by fluted Corinthian columns; cornices are above both the first and second floors, again surmounted by pilasters. The first and second floors have six-over-six sash windows, the first-floor windows being taller. The ground floor windows are one-over-one sashes, all with sills and plain reveals. The basement contains three-over-three sashes. Steps lead to entrances on the left and the set-back entrance on the right, with part-glazed four-panel doors and overlights. The rear right elevation has blind openings. The interior features a dogleg staircase on the right, which is reportedly stick balustered on the upper floors. The iron railings to the sides of the steps have rod and scrolled balusters.
