Description

The Adventist Church and the Old English Gentleman Public House, located on Worship Street in Kingston upon Hull, are late 18th-century buildings that have been restored and altered around 1988. They are constructed of brick with ashlar dressings and feature a hipped and gabled pantile roof, which has a single gable and two ridge stacks, two of which have been rebuilt. The buildings have dentillated wooden eaves and a pediment, with moulded wooden eaves specifically for the public house.

The structure has a projecting center with four windows beneath a dentillated pediment. It rises three storeys and has an eight-window range of 12-pane sash windows with keystone lintels. Above these are eight 9-pane sashes with similar lintels. To the left, there is a restored wooden shop front for the public house, which includes pilasters, a panelled stallboard, and a dentillated fascia cornice, along with three small single-pane windows. To the right, a plastic Doric doorcase features a dentillated pediment and a fielded six-panel door with a fanlight.

The right return, facing Charlotte Street Mews, has a three-window addition with two similar doorcases. The left return, facing Mason Street, includes three 12-pane sashes, with the leftmost being smaller, and above are similar 9-pane sashes, with the right one being blank. Below this section is a continuation of the public house shop front, which features a half-glazed corner doorway with an overlight, a half-glazed door with an overlight flanked by single two-light windows, and two segment-headed half-glazed doors with overlights.
