Description
Malton Bridge is a bridge built around 1760, originally likely designed by John Carr. It is constructed of sandstone ashlar and has been widened with the addition of a concrete walkway featuring iron railings. The bridge spans three sections over the River Derwent and includes a mid-stream island. It features semicircular arches made of voussoirs, with roll mouldings on the downstream side and cutwaters positioned between the arches at the Norton end. There is a raised chamfered band on the upstream side, which is located beneath a plain cambered parapet. The original downstream parapet remains alongside the newer walkway. The south end of the bridge is situated in Norton-on-Derwent civil parish. The bridge was under repair at the time of the listing review in 1990.
