Description
47 Castlegate is a building in Malton that was likely constructed as two houses in the late 18th century, but it has since been altered and is now a shop with a flat above. The ground floor features glazed tiles, while the upper part is painted and rendered, with brick on the right side. The building has a pantile roof with stone-coped gables, shaped kneelers, and a brick stack at the left end. It has a two-storey front with four windows. There is a segment-arched passage entry with a board door at the left end, and the rest of the ground floor is taken up by a continuous shop front that includes a recessed glazed door and a divided overlight. On the first floor, there are three single-pane sash windows on the right side and one squat four-pane sash window on the left, all with painted stone sills. A Sun Insurance firemark is located on the right side of the building. The building is included for its group value and was partially unoccupied at the time of review in 1991.
