Description

This late 18th-century inn, later used as a hotel and now a house, is located on Castlegate in Malton. The building is constructed of coursed squared stone with a pantile roof, stone coped gables, and moulded kneelers. It features brick stacks at each end and to the right of the centre. It is two storeys and an attic in height, featuring a four-window front. The front door is a margin-glazed door with an overlight, flanked by narrow 20th-century lights. Three-light canted bays with single-pane sash windows are present at each end of the ground floor. A similar window has been inserted above the door; the remaining first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes. Four gabled dormers with unequal nine-pane sashes light the attic. Previously known as the Castle Hotel and the Commercial Hotel.
