Description
This is a mid-18th century house located in Castlegate, Malton, that was raised and altered in the 19th century and later subdivided. The front of the building is painted brick in a Flemish bond pattern, set upon a high stone plinth. The right side is rendered, and there are raised and chamfered quoins and painted stone dressings. The roof is covered with pantiles and features stone coped gables, shaped kneelers, and brick stacks on the left end and centre right.
The house has two storeys and an attic, with a six-window front. A 20th-century board passage door is located beneath a blocked overlight at the right end. A panelled door with an overlight sits in the centre, flanked by two windows on each side; the right windows have 12 panes and the left windows have single panes. The first floor window to the right of the centre is a 19th-century canted bay with a four-pane centre sash, while above the central door is a four-pane sash. The remaining first-floor windows are 12-pane sashes, with those to the left being top-hung and those to the right being originals. A raised sill band is present on each floor, interrupted on the first floor by the inserted bay window. All openings, excluding the bay window, feature keyed flat arches made of gauged brick. A moulded cornice sits on consoles. There are two gabled dormers with 2x4-pane casements.
