Description
68 and 70 Castlegate is a house that has been converted into a house and shop, likely built in the early 18th century, with alterations and subdivision made in the 19th century. The building is constructed of painted coursed rubble stone and features brick stacks at the center and left end of a pantile roof. It has a two-storey, two-window front. There is a board passage door at the right end, with a four-pane sash window to the left. The left end has a shop front with plain pilasters, moulded imposts, and a cornice; it includes a recessed half-glazed shop door with an overlight to the left of a four-pane shop window. The first-floor window for No. 68 is a three-over-one pane sliding sash, while No. 70 has paired eight-pane sashes.
