Description

The Union is probably a late 18th-century house and cottage, later altered and now used as a public house. It is constructed of colour-washed brick with a black-painted plinth, and has a pantile roof. The building is two storeys high and five bays wide, arranged as a 2:3 pattern. The central right bay contains a 20th-century panelled double door under a renewed overlight, set within a doorcase featuring a dentilled cornice on fluted pilaster jambs. There are three pairs of four-pane sash windows to the left, and a single four-pane sash to the right. The upper floor has four-pane sash windows. All windows have painted stone sills, and keyed wedge lintels. A modillion eaves course runs above the first two bays to the left, while a cavetto-moulded eaves cornice extends over the bays to the right. The building has coped gables, shaped kneelers, and stacks at both ends and in the left-of-centre position.
