Description
Wood Hall is an early 19th-century house constructed of ashlar stone. It has two storeys and an attic, featuring seven bays. The entrance is located in a central, projecting, apsidal bay, which includes a glazed 19th-century door with an overlight set within a porch supported by six Doric columns. This porch leads to a curved, railed balcony at the first-floor level. The windows throughout the building are recessed sashes with glazing bars, splayed, keyed lintels, and plain stone sills. There is a projecting first-floor band on either side of the porch. Above, six Ionic pilasters support an eaves band and a moulded eaves cornice, topped by a plain parapet. The chimney stacks are grouped along the ridge line of the roof, which is not visible.
Inside, there is a fine cantilevered central staircase with a wrought-iron balustrade. The ground-floor rooms feature impressive 19th-century plasterwork and panelling. There is a lower, two-storey range attached to the left of the main house, but it is not of special interest.
