Description
Wayside Cottage and Stocks Hill Cottage is a house that has been altered into two cottages. It dates from the mid to late 18th century and has undergone some changes in the mid 20th century. The building is constructed of hammer-dressed stone and features a stone slate roof. It has a two-cell plan with a direct entry into the first cell and stands two storeys high.
On the first floor, there are two windows, and the building has quoins and ashlar lintel bands on both floors. There are paired doorways, with the left doorway being original and featuring a keystone. The windows have keystones and projecting sills, with the left window having a lowered sill. The first-floor windows retain small-pane Yorkshire sashes. The gables are coped with kneelers and stacks.
On the right-hand return, there is a former doorway with a monolithic lintel and a window above, both of which are now blocked. This building is a prominent feature within the village.
