Description

Mizpah Cottage is an early 19th-century cottage situated on Rigton Green, positioned at the junction of two roads. It is constructed of random rubble with a red tile roof. The cottage follows a two-cell direct-entry plan, with an outshut to the side. It is a single-story building with two windows to the left of the doorway, featuring deep margin-dressed lintels and projecting sills. A mid-20th century wood-and-glass storm porch has been added over the doorway. A ridge stack is present. To the right, the outshut is slightly set back; it originally had a small window and a lean-to roof, although the roof has been raised and altered to a flat design.

The interior originally comprised an unheated first cell and a larger, second cell with a deep chimney breast. The cottage is notable as a squatter's encroachment on Rigton Green, utilising a corner of the green.
