Description
East Rigton Farmhouse is a house built around 1780, with its roof raised and windows changed in the early 19th century. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and has a stone slate roof. The house features a three-cell through-passage plan and stands two storeys tall, with four first-floor windows arranged in four bays. The corners of the building have quoins. The third bay includes a doorway flanked by 1¼ pilasters, leading to a six-panel door with a glazed overlight above. The windows have monolithic lintels, projecting sills, and 12-pane sashes set in flush wood architraves. The ground-floor window in the first bay has altered glazing. The house has paired shaped gutter brackets, a gable stack to the right, and another ridge stack. On the left side, there is a former gable-entry doorway that is now partly blocked, located to the right of an inserted doorway, with two windows above it on the first floor. The earlier 18th-century roofline is still visible, indicating that it originally had a single-storey rear outshut. In the garden, there is a stone dated 1781, believed to have originally come from the house, marking its date of construction.
