Description
The Old Star is a farmhouse that has been altered to serve as a public house, dating from the early to mid-19th century, and is known to have been a public house since 1822. It is constructed from hammer-dressed stone and features a Welsh blue-slate roof. The building has a two-cell direct-entry plan leading into the first cell and stands two storeys tall.
On the first floor, there are three windows. The doorway is topped with a lintel that has incised voussoirs and is flanked by canted-bay windows, which were likely added during its conversion to an inn. These windows have plinths and projecting stone sills, with timbered windows and a cornice above. The first-floor windows have projecting sills, with the central window being blind, which likely once held the inn sign before it was replaced by a modern swinging sign. The building also features added wooden eaves and a bracketed cornice that supports the gutter, along with gable stacks. The Old Star is a prominent feature within the village.
