Description
87 Kinghorn Road is an early 19th-century, two-storey house with an attic, featuring three bays in a classical terrace style. The exterior is constructed of ashlar stone with a base course, eaves cornice, and blocking course. The windows are architraved, with cornices above both the windows and doors on the ground floor.
The south elevation is symmetrical, showcasing a deep-set panelled door at the centre, flanked by windows, and regular windows on the first floor. Above, there is a modern rooflight at the centre, with splayed, piend-roofed dormer windows on either side.
On the north elevation, there is a window to the right of centre and two windows on the outer right, along with a part-glazed door to the left of centre, which leads to a modern single-storey extension on the outer left. A large stair window is positioned between the floors, with additional windows on the right and left at the first floor. The windows feature 12- and 16-pane glazing patterns in timber sash and case style, while the stair window has plate glass with a coloured border. The roof is covered with grey slates, and there are coped ashlar stacks with cans and ashlar coped skews.
Inside, there is a part-glazed vestibule door with a matching coloured glass border to the stair window. An archway supported by Doric columns leads to a winding stair with stone treads to the first floor, decorated with cast-iron balusters and a wooden handrail. The first-floor drawing room boasts decorative cornicing and a ceiling with a foliate centre rose and geometric plasterwork. The fire surrounds are made of carved timber.
The property also includes an outbuilding, a stone wash-house with a sloping roof and ashlar stack, as well as boundary walls. The southern boundary wall is low and saddleback-coped, while the northern, eastern, and western boundaries are marked by coped rubble walls.
