Description
The Chapel at Stockeld Park is a building constructed in 1895 and enlarged in 1909, designed by Detmar Blow for Robert Foster. It is made of ashlar stone and features a Westmorland slate roof. The chapel is a single-storey structure that is five bays long and includes transepts.
The west gable front has a central entrance with six-panelled double doors and an overlight. It is adorned with a moulded architrave and cornice supported by consoles. Above the entrance is a keyed oculus. The plinth, which has chamfered rustication, supports flanking engaged Ionic columns and pilasters that hold up a plain frieze inscribed with the date 1895. The corniced pediment features a relief of the Pascal Lamb. There is also a small clock turret with clasping pilasters, open segmental pediments, and a dome topped with a finial.
Inside, the chapel contains glass by Victor Milner, and the altar canopy may have originated from the original chapel designed by James Paine as part of the house.
