Description
26 and 28 High Street are two houses dating from the late 18th century. They are constructed of coursed rubble with a pantile roof and stand two storeys high, featuring four first-floor windows. The rear rooms are covered by a catslide roof.
No 28, on the left, has a 20th-century half-glazed door with a shallow pointed arch above a stone lintel. To the left of the door is a sliding sash window with glazing bars, also under a shallow pointed arch and resting on a stone sill. All first-floor windows match this design. To the right of the door is a square 20th-century window with nine panes and a stone lintel, followed by a wider opening with a shallow pointed arch.
No 26, on the right, has its entrance in the right gable end, featuring a 20th-century porch. The original doorway, now blocked, is located to the left of the window on the right. The windows are sliding sashes, similar to those of No 28. Both houses have end stacks and a large stack in the centre between them.
Inside No 28, a timber post is visible between the kitchen and living room, suggesting that it may have originally been a timber-framed, single-aisled house now encased in stone.
