Description
This building, originally a single house and now divided into two, dates from the late 18th century. It is constructed of pinkish-orange brick laid in Flemish bond, with magnesian limestone ashlar dressings and a pantile roof. The structure has three storeys and four bays, featuring an ashlar plinth. The entrance is located in the third bay, accessed by steps leading to a six-fielded panel door, which is topped by a radial fanlight and set within a doorcase of fluted Doric columns that support a frieze and hood.
The windows on the ground and first floors are sash windows with glazing bars, positioned beneath ashlar wedge lintels that have fluted keystones and ashlar cills. The second floor features six-pane sashes with ashlar cills. A double dentilled eaves cornice with bead and reel moulding runs along the top of the building. The roof is hipped to the left and has ridge and end stacks.
The entrance to No 2 Bridge Street also features a six-fielded panel door beneath an oblong fanlight, framed by fluted Doric columns supporting a frieze and hood. The ground floor has a tripartite sash window, while the first floor has a sash window with glazing bars and the second floor has a six-pane sash.
