Description

Brook House is an early 19th-century house, with later additions and alterations, located on Main Street, Elvington. The building is constructed of pinkish-brown brick in a Flemish bond pattern, with ashlar dressings and a Welsh slate roof, forming an L-shaped plan with a 19th-century infill section. It has two storeys and three bays. The central entrance features a six-panel door topped with a fanlight containing glazing bars. The door is sheltered by a doorcase with attached Tuscan columns supporting a frieze and a hood. The ground floor has canted bays with sash windows. The first floor has 12-pane sashes beneath wedge lintels and with ashlar sills. A modillion eaves band runs along the roofline. The house has ashlar kneelers and end stacks.
