Description
The Grange is a house dating from the 18th century, with early 19th-century alterations. It features a stuccoed facade and a Welsh slate roof, complemented by ashlar kneelers and coping. A wrought-iron veranda with a cedar wood tile roof enhances the entrance. The building has a central entrance hall plan, is two storeys high, and consists of three bays, with a single bay two-storey addition to the right. The entrance is located in the second bay, featuring four-panel double doors set within a doorcase that has paired Doric pilasters supporting a frieze and cornice. Ornate cast-iron bootscrapers are positioned on either side of the entrance. The windows are mainly 12-pane sashes, including one 12-pane sash with margin lights, all with ashlar sills. There are ridge stacks on the roof. The first-floor veranda has a trellis-work arcade that continues around a canted bay to the garden front on the left. Inside, most windows have shutters, and there is an openwell staircase with turned balusters and a wreathed handrail. Many rooms feature early 19th-century marble and cast-iron fireplaces, with the dining room fireplace decorated with sphinxes and urns.
