Description
Nos 1, 3 and 5 on Bridge Street are former houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They date from the early 18th century, with additions and alterations made in the 19th and 20th centuries. The building is constructed from magnesian limestone ashlar and features a stone slate and pantile roof with brick stacks. It has two storeys and four windows on the first floor.
There are four 20th-century doorways, each topped with oblong fanlights. The left doorway is part of a 20th-century plate glass shop front. The right doorway is framed by a 19th-century pilastered doorcase, which is situated between plate glass windows with glazed tiles below, all under a modillion hood. The central doors and shop front appear to be a 20th-century replica of the right-hand surround and hood.
On the first floor, there is a remaining ashlar band, and the windows are 4-pane sashes set in chamfered architraves. The roof is swept and hipped to the left, with a ridge and end stack.
