Description

Barclay's Bank is an early 20th-century bank built in the Edwardian Baroque style. It is constructed of ashlar with a concealed roof. The bank has a plinth and quoins to the ground floor. Steps lead up to a central panelled door set within an architrave, which has straight tooling under a triglyph frieze and a segmental pediment containing three cherubs holding a plaque inscribed 'BANK'. Sash windows with glazing bars are present throughout, with quoined jambs. The ground-floor windows have a continuous cill band and are set under stepped voussoirs with a Greek key frieze. A moulded band is visible on the first floor, and the first-floor windows have aprons with balusters, surmounted by a cornice, pulvinated frieze, and alternate segmental and triangular pediments broken by tripartite keystones. There is a plain frieze above, followed by a dentil cornice. The building is topped with a balustrade, finished with ball and vase finials.
