Description
No 1 High Street is a town hall that has been converted into offices. It was built in the early to mid-19th century and has undergone some later alterations. The building is made of pinkish-brown brick with ashlar dressings and features a wrought-iron balcony and a Welsh slate roof. It stands three storeys high and has three windows on the first floor. The ground floor has been renewed, with double plank carriage doors on the left and a canted bay with 20th-century glazing on the right. There are remnants of an ashlar cill band.
On the first floor, there is a balcony supported by brackets, featuring wrought-iron railings with bars arranged to form crosses and decorated with paterae. The first floor also has three round-arched windows, with their heads projecting into the third storey. A continuous band runs at the second floor level, accompanied by hood-moulds above the windows. The building has a cornice and a pediment with a surround that conceals the roof and contains a plaque. Inside, there is a 19th-century staircase with turned balusters, although most of the interior has been renewed.
