Description

Lazonby Church of England School and School House is a 19th-century building made of coursed mixed red and calciferous sandstone, featuring flush red sandstone quoins on a chamfered plinth. The roof is covered with graduated greenslate and has Dutch gables along with tall banded ashlar chimney stacks. The structure consists of four linked parts, all from the same period.

On the left is the School House, which is two storeys high and has three bays. In the center, there is a square three-storey bell tower and porch with a classroom located behind it. To the right is a single-storey, four-bay classroom or hall, and further to the right is a lower double-span wing. The School House features a projecting Dutch gable with mullioned and transomed windows. It has a lower integral two-storey porch with a side doorway and front sash windows in plain reveals, and the left return wall also has a Dutch gable.

The tower includes a round-arched porch and twin round-arched bell openings beneath a pyramidal roof. The classroom behind the tower has mullioned-and-transomed windows and Dutch gables. The classroom or hall has cross-mullioned windows and a projecting central chimney breast, also with Dutch gables. The wing features a round-arched doorway and 20th-century casements in stone surrounds.
