Description

The entrance gateway located south-east of The College was built in 1848 for T. Fetherstonhaugh. It is constructed from red sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings. The gateway features a pointed carriage arch that has roll moulding and a chamfered architrave, along with a smaller pedestrian arch on the left side. Above the arch, there is a stepped parapet with a battlemented wall that imitates a tower on the left. To the right, there is a corresponding octagonal column with a square cap and plinth. The gateway is completed with railed wooden gates. It is listed partly for its group value with The College.
