Description
This is a house and shop, originally two houses, located in Kirkoswald. The house was built in 1713, with the initials "I.S." carved above the entrance; the shop dates to the early 19th century. The house's walls are of incised painted stucco, with a sandstone slate roof, and 20th-century rebuilt stone and brick chimney stacks. The shop is constructed of red sandstone, with ashlar quoins, a Welsh slate roof, and end stone chimney stacks. The building is two storeys high, with two bays for each section. The shop adjoins and slightly projects to the right of the house. The house has a 20th-century door set within a plain painted stone surround, with single-pane sash windows in plain painted stone surrounds. A 20th-century door and an upper floor window are located to the extreme right. The shop features a 20th-century door in a plain chamfered stone surround, along with an early 19th-century bow shop window with glazing bars in a moulded wooden surround. The upper floor of the shop has casement windows in plain stone surrounds. The building is listed partly due to its group value with the Manor House.
