Description
29 High Street is a house that now includes a shop, dating from the late 17th century, with early 19th-century additions and alterations. The building is constructed of coursed sandstone rubble with ashlar dressings and has slate roofs, featuring three rendered brick gable stacks. It is two storeys tall with attics.
The street front has a single bay and a projecting gable wing to the right, which contains a 20th-century shop front. Above the shop front is a triple glazing bar sash window set in a raised plain ashlar surround, with a smaller similar sash window above it. The gable features ashlar coping and kneelers. To the left, there is a lower two-storey wing with a pantile roof, which has a single three-light flush mullion window and a similar window above.
On the southwest side wall, there is a blocked three-light chamfered mullion window, with a similar window above it. To the left, there is a blocked three-light window, with a two-light sliding sash window with glazing bars above. The rear court includes a round-headed staircase window, which is set in a flush ashlar surround with a raised keystone. The rear wing has a plank doorway to the right in a flush ashlar painted surround, with a three-light sliding sash window with glazing bars to the left, and a larger similar window above. Attached to the left of the building is a large stone water trough.
