Description

The gate piers located beside the entrance to the Church of St Oswald are likely from the late 17th century, similar to the gate piers at The College opposite. They were moved to their current location around 1848. The piers are made of red sandstone ashlar and feature two squared columns with moulded panels and supporting scrolled side brackets. They also have a moulded cornice topped with shaped capping stones.
