Description

The churchyard gate piers and gates to the parish church of St Oswald were built around 1700. They are made of stone and serve as the main entrance to the churchyard at the junction of Church Street and School Lane. The gate piers are panelled and topped with conical caps that are supported by skulls with flames as finials. The gates are made of 18th-century iron and feature an overthrow.

These gate piers and gates, along with Nos 38, 40, and 72, Pegg's Almshouses, Owlfield's Almshouses, The Mansion, the Summerhouse, and the cobbled pavements, form a group with the parish Church of St Oswald. Additionally, the churchyard gate piers and gates, as well as the section of churchyard walls along School Lane, are grouped with all the listed buildings on School Lane and with No 69 Church Street.
